INTRODUCTION
Vision is a program designed to enhance the use of
Microsoft"s Flight Simulator 4 and the Aircraft and Scenery
Design accessory program. It allows the user to build
scenery and mode file manager type files that can be assigned
scenery and modes for specific flight paths.
PURPOSE
VISION automates the task of clearing ASD SC1, DY1 and FS4
Mode (.MOD) files from the Flight Simulator directory as well
as moving user selected .SC1, .DY1 and mode files for a
flight plan to the FS4 directory. VISION creates XXXX.VIS
files which contain the names of SC1, DY1 and .MOD files to
be moved from their respective directories to the FS4
directory. Once these .VIS files have been created they can
be displayed and selected from within the VISION Program.
When a .VIS file is selected for a particular flight all
.SC1, .DY1 and .MOD files are removed from the FS4 directory
and SC1, DY1 and the start up mode files for this flight are
moved to the FS4 directory. The FS4 configure file is also
modified with the new start up mode. Modes can be user
created modes from FS4 or Library modes which are built into
the FS4 default mode library.
MAIN MENU OPTIONS
SET PATHS: You must set paths for your .SC1, .DY1, .MOD and
VISION created .VIS files. Once you have done this a file
called VISION.SET file is created in the directory where
VISION resides. This .SET file will not have to be changed
unless Static, Dynamic, Mode or .VIS files are stored in a
new directory or path or unless VISION is started from a new
directory.
SELECT A SCENERY (.vis) FILE: Displays .VIS files to select
your choice then clears and moves files for this flight plan.
Exit VISION and start FS4 for this selected flight.
BUILD A (.vis) SCENERY FILE: When this option is selected the
program prompts for a name for this file. It is not necessary
to add the .VIS extension to the name as the program appends
it if not found. Next you are asked if you want to use Static
(.SC1) files. If yes, a display of all .SC1 files are shown
from the path that was set in the Main Menu SET PATHS option.
As many .SC1 files as desired may be selected by following
the file display menu options. When all needed files have
been selected press F10 to move to the next prompt which asks
if Dynamic .DY1 files are desired for this scenery flight
plan .VIS file which you are creating. Use the same selection
process as used with the static scenery files. Press F10
again and the next prompt will ask if you want to use a
LIBRARY (FS4 built in modes), CUSTOM (user created modes) or
skip mode selection. If you select the LIBRARY option for
modes a list of FS4 library modes will be displayed and you
will be asked to select one. If CUSTOM is selected a file
list of modes in the path that was selected by the SET PATH
option of the MAIN MENU will be displayed. If you select SKIP
then no mode files will be deleted from the FS4 directory nor
will a mode file be moved to the FS4 directory and The default
FS4 start up mode will remain unchanged. If a library or
custom mode is selected for the .VIS file, the FS4 default
start up mode will become the mode selected. If it is a
custom mode the mode file will be moved to the FS4 directory.
EXAMPLE-- For a flight from Rochester, N. Y. to Cleveland,
Ohio. Name the .VIS file ROC-CLE. Select .SC1 files which
might include Rochester, Batavia, Buffalo, Erie Pa. and
Cleveland. Select companion Dynamic .DY1 files if any. Select
the custom mode file ROCH22.MOD as the start up mode for this
.VIS file.
When you start a FS4 session simply start VISION and pick #1
SELECT A SCENERY FILE. Now select ROC-CLE.VIS and after files
have been moved by the program, exit VISION and start FS4 for
your Rochester to Cleveland flight.
CHANGE FS4 START UP MODE: VISION also lets you just select a
new default start up mode for FS4 by asking if you want to
select a LIBRARY or CUSTOM mode for the default.
MANUAL SCENERY BUILD: You may also move files from your
static, dynamic or mode paths manually, to add to files
already present in the FS4 directory or to try a one time
only flight that you may not want to save for later use as a
.VIS file.
Suggested PATHS for your files:
If you have a hard drive and the FS4 program is in a sub
directory called C:\FS4 Put all ASD .SC1 files in
C:\FS4\STATIC. Put all ASD .DY1 files in C:\FS4\DYNAMIC. Put
all custom mode files in C:\FS4\MODE. Put VISION.EXE in your
C:\FS4 directory and put the created .VIS files in your
C:\FS4 directory also.
FLIGHT SIMULATOR 4 = C:\FS4
.SC1 files = C:\FS4\STATIC
.DY1 files = C:\FS4\DYNAMIC
.MOD files = C:\FS4\MODE
.VIS files = C:\FS4
VISION.EXE = C:\FS4
WARNING WARNING WARNING
Be careful and make sure you have Static, Dynamic and Mode
files backed up on disk or in an irrelevant sub directory.
VISION deletes these files in the FS4 directory before it
moves new ones in. If your SET PATHS are not correct it would
be possible to delete these files in their respective paths.
VISION should make flying with ASD scenery files a lot
easier. Once you have built your flight plan scenery .VIS
files, flying from, say, Las Vegas to San Francisco with
required scenery will be as simple as selecting the .VIS file
and starting FS4.
If you would rather store your mode files in the FS4
directory, VISION can tell by your SET PATHS designations and
will not delete mode files from the FS4 directory when
working.
This program is FREEWARE and is my contribution to the forum
for supplying me with some excellent ASD scenery uploaded by
members who put in a lot of time and effort to make my flying
more enjoyable.
